Screenings and zines
I have a couple of screenings coming up in Yorkshire this month, which is exciting! Firstly the documentary has been selected to be part of Leeds International Film Festival 2021! The screening is taking place at Vue in The Light, Leeds on Thursday 11 November. This event will be in partnership with Nice as Pie Race Festival and proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to Equaliser and Female Magik at Music:Leeds.
Then at the end of the month, the short cut of the film (previously screened at GRRRL HAUS CINEMA in Berlin and Boston) will be shown at the Young Thugs ‘Grand Opening’ in York. Young Thugs is a recording studio in the city which runs LEVEL – a community programme offering training and support for women and non-binary sound engineers. Money raised from the screening will be used to support this and other widening participation initiatives. As part of the evening, we’ll also have some music from Fat Spatula – their bassist Tarryn was in the documentary! And another band (to be confirmed).
There is also some new stuff in the Etsy shop. In addition to issues 1 and 3 of the documentary zine, and the IWD 2020 collaborative zine, there are two new zines featuring photos I’ve taken of women in music. One features photos pre-documentary (2006-2014) and the other is from the start of filming in 2014 to 2020. I actually found that I had a larger pool of images to choose from for the second zine. I think this is because during the making of the documentary, I discovered more bands with women in them. It’s sad that I might have missed out on bands in the past, but I’m glad that I am now more aware of this.
